3 He left Judea and departed again to Galilee. 4 But He needed to go through Samaria.5 So He came to a city of Samaria which is called Sychar, near the plot of ground that Jacob gave to his son Joseph. 6 Now Jacob’s well was there. Jesus therefore, being wearied from His journey, sat thus by the well. It was about the sixth hour. (John 4:3-6)
The passage noted below is a part of a conversation that Jesus had with the Samaritan woman. Jesus interrupts her mission to get water from the well for His mission: her. Jesus rested from his journey in Sychar, in Samaria, where Jacob’s well was. He and this woman would talk at the bottom of Mount Gerizim, the place of worship esteemed and revered by the Samaritans. Though he asked this woman for water, he was interested in much more. He was there to minister to her because he knew that her soul ultimately ached for him. This was her appointed time.
Many times, we are bothered by life’s interruptions but many times it is in those moments that we truly get to experience God in new ways. Instead of running away and disdaining the interruptions, lean into them. It is in this place of “rest” that God truly speaks to us, giving the most important thing (spiritual state) priority.
Prayer: Dear Lord, grant me the ability to see things from your perspective. Let me welcome your interruptions, understanding that it is in this place that you breathe new life into our relationship. Let me be willing to cast down my idols and make you my first choice. My time is your time. Your way is my way. Your purpose is my purpose. In the Name of Jesus, Amen.
