When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; And through the rivers, they shall not overflow you. When you walk through the fire, you shall not be burned, Nor shall the flame scorch you. (Isaiah 43:1-2)
There is something about water that can be terrifying. It is easy to lose control in the water. Moreover, there is a potential for drowning. Humans were made to walk on dry land.
Even though God does have the power to take us safely through literal waters, we most often think of figurative ones when we read this passage. We think about getting a report from the doctor and having little or no control over whether you are healed. We think of having a problem with one of our children, with no control over a favorable outcome. We might think of any issue that makes us feel like we are passive agents; no control over our destiny.
Our God makes a promise. He says that when you pass through the waters, He is with us. Now think of this. Our God created the waters and has control over the waters. He measures the waters in His hand (Isaiah 30:12). So, waters may evoke fear in us, but not our God.
Prayer: Lord, there are times when I feel overwhelmed by situations. I feel like I am being carried away in the waters. Lord, please remind me by your Spirit, that you are with me. You have ordered every step. You are my Keeper. In the Name of Jesus, Amen.
