But I cry to you for help, Lord; in the morning my prayer comes before you.
Why, Lord, do you reject me and hide your face from me?
Psalm 88:13-14
Have you ever been hurt by God? Have you ever felt abandoned or rejected by him? I think most of us have, even if these wounds were real or imagined. We know that God loves us and wants the very best for us, but there are times when he seems silent or unresponsive to our cries. Even though Faith says that he is working on our behalf, it is difficult to appropriate his care and concern for us amid our difficult circumstances.
This psalmist talks about this feeling of abandonment by God. He cries out to God and asks him about the rejection. He asks God why He is hiding His face from him.
These are difficult questions. At this moment, we must remember that God's love for us is not always reflected in the quality of a day or a dark season in our lives. It is during these times that we call out to him like never before. Why? Because it is during this time of vulnerability that the enemy likes to ramp up his attack and make us question our relationship with our Heavenly Father. One of his biggest tactics during these dark seasons is to have us avoid God altogether.
This approach is not the answer, and it only causes more pain and isolation. We must candidly take our concerns to God, EVEN WHEN THE COMPLAINT IS AGAINST HIM. HE ALREADY KNOWS…
PRAYER: Lord, there are times when it feels like you are the injurer. When the enemy comes in and makes me feel like you have abandoned me, give me the grace to pursue you even more. In the Name of Jesus, Amen.
