DON’T ASSIGN FEAR TO IT

Walking in the Presence of His Power

For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind

(1 Timothy 1:7)

Moses and the Israelites had their backs against the wall – the Egyptian army behind them and the Red Sea before them. The Israelites had been enslaved by the Egyptians for over 400 years. Pharaoh decides to let them go, but later relents and pursues them. The Israelites began to assign fear to their situation because it looked dire: 600 chariots of soldiers at their rear and a vast body of water before them. God led them to this place, going ahead of them in a cloud by day and a pillar of fire by night. They did not have to assign fear to this situation, because God (“power”) was with them, but they did. Exodus 14:10b says they were terrified and cried out to the Lord, denying the Power abiding with them.

How many times have we gone through difficult times, knowing that God is with us, and has given us the resources to get through it, but we choose to assign fear to the issue?

Prayer: Lord, we have assigned fear to so many situations, despite your proven ability to get us out of situations time after time. Change our perspectives so that we are no longer moved by the facts but moved by your supremacy. Remind us of your powerful presence despite the circumstances. We don’t want to squander our time in fear. Help us give you room to deliver. In the Name of Jesus, Amen.
