The Lord will guide you continually, And satisfy your soul in drought, And strengthen your bones; You shall be like a watered garden, And like a spring of water, whose waters do not fail. Isaiah 58:11
Because I grew up on a farm, I have an appreciation for the impact the weather has on the livelihood of those who till the soil. This summer of 2023 with its period of intense heat in South Carolina deepened my respect for nature. As I traveled past corn fields that lined country roads, I wondered many times what type of harvest those who had planted could expect. What had started as hills of promise were parched. I remembered the years our Daddy farmed, and imagined that the landowners would probably end up applying for disaster assistance because there would be no corn at gathering time. The reasons: High temperatures and lack of rain. Just as corn and other crops need water to grow and thrive, we need water too – not just for our bodies, but for our souls. When our souls go through dry spells, only God can fulfill.
PRAYER: Father, I acknowledge that I’m in a dry place. Please don’t fail me. I need your guidance. Strengthen my bones. Water me. Thank you for satisfying my soul. Thank you for being the lifter of my head. In the name of Jesus, I pray. Amen
