He heals the broken in heart, and binds up their wounds.
Psalm 147:3
There are times when we get Mr. Right or Mrs. Right, and things don’t work out. The reasons for divorce are many, but the pain is the same. I’ve never walked in this path, but I have seen others go through it. I can’t even begin to imagine the pain as something breaks up that was united. I can only see in my imagination that God has melded a couple together, but in divorce, there is a separation. Because the two were one, it is impossible for one to pull apart from the other without causing wounds. You take a part of them with you, and they take a part of you with them.
So many times, we spend an inordinate amount of time in Christian circles trying to figure out if a divorce was biblical. We worry if we have somehow disappointed God along with all of the others who are impacted by the separation. I can’t tell you that I am an expert on this subject, but I know that we serve a God who is love. His ways are full of mercy and compassion. Despite where we find ourselves, we must remember that God does not throw us away when we are encountering the pangs of separation and divorce. The Word for today says that he heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds. With that being said, it makes sense to go to him with our pain and sorrow, with an expectation that he will mend our broken hearts.
PRAYER: Lord, we pray for those who are going through separation and/or divorce. We know that you are the Lord who heals us. Let them not feel condemned, despite the reason for the divorce, and let them run to you for peace, comfort, and healing. In the name of Jesus, I pray. Amen.
