For what shall I render unto the Lord for all his benefits toward me? I will take the cup of salvation, and call upon the name of the Lord. I will pay my vows unto the Lord now in the presence of all his people.

Psalm 116:12-17

Appreciation of today is another gateway to gratitude. Au and Au refer to the number of times “today” is in the book of Luke. We see “today” when the good news is announced. (Luke 2:11). When Jesus started his public ministry, he referred to “today.” (Luke 4:21). Jesus told Zacchaeus that “today” salvation had come to his house (Luke 19:9). Jesus told the thief on the cross that “today” you will be with me in Paradise (Luke 23:43).

This psalmist from our verse today is so overwhelmed with God’s blessings that he asked, “What shall I render unto the Lord for all his benefits toward me?” Are we appreciating the blessings of today so much that we are moved to ask ourselves what can we give God in return? When we really think about it, what CAN we give to God for his blessings? We CAN call upon his name and give him praise.

PRAYER: Lord, today is another opportunity for me to praise your name. When I think of today’s blessings, I am overwhelmed by your goodness towards me. Thank you for all you have done for me. In the name of Jesus, I praise you. Amen
