“My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me? Why are You so far from helping Me, And from the words of My groaning? O My God, I cry in the daytime, but You do not hear; And in the night season, and am not silent.” Psalm 22:1-2
Many of the Psalms were written by David. In this passage, David acknowledges that trouble is near and there is no one to help. Bulls have surrounded and encircled him. He says his heart is like wax, and his bones feel out of joint. He has no strength and, and his tongue clings to his jaws. He prays for deliverance. He prays to be saved from the lions’ mouth.
Have you ever walked in David’s shoes? I am sure each of us can identify with David at least to some extent at some point in our lives. In the midst of David’s despair, he remembers God’s holiness and that God has been his God.
PRAYER: Dear Father, sometimes I feel like I have been forsaken by others. Sometimes I feel as if you have forsaken me. Sometimes I feel like you are far from me. When I feel surrounded by the enemy, rescue me. When I feel weak, strengthen me. When I am in the depths of despair, lift me up. In the name of Jesus, I thank you. Amen
