Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith.
Hebrews 12:1-2
This flesh can make it difficult to fix our eyes on Jesus. When we are walking in the natural, God’s stuff makes no sense. They appear to be foolishness. What makes sense is the physical reality. Have you ever tried to witness to someone who is very intellectual—those who insist that God’s kingdom must make logical sense? You can spend hours of going back and forth with them, because they have stumbled on their own flesh.
God wants us to throw that flesh off us and not allow ourselves to be blinded by it. The Spirit and the flesh are enemies of one another. Just take a moment and read some verses in Romans 8. Paul declares in verse 7 that the mind governed by the flesh is hostile to God. It does not submit to God’s law, nor can it do so.
How do we enter this life of the Spirit and renounce the life of the flesh? We do it by allowing the Holy Spirit lordship in our lives. We seek Him first.
PRAYER: There are times when I operate in the flesh, totally disregarding the Spirit. You are my Pilot, Lord. Teach me to pay attention to your direction, and not allow my flesh to rule me. In the name of Jesus, I pray. Amen
