“The eyes of the Lord are on the righteous, And His ears are open to their cry. The righteous cry out, and the Lord hears, And delivers them out of all their troubles. The Lord is near to those who have a broken heart, And saves such as [d]have a contrite spirit.”

Psalm 34: 15, 17,18

The daughter of a friend of mine had a baby recently. Prior to the arrival of the little one, family and friends hosted a shower on the family’s behalf. The young parents had established a registry which listed some gift ideas. One of those items was a baby monitor. A higher end model is described online as having vivid colors, clarity, the ability to see the baby from any angle, and a built-in temperature sensor that alerts the parent’s unit about adjusting the thermostat. The unit has eight lullabies, and it touts the impossibility of others spying through the monitor. Its description doesn’t say that the parent can hear the baby cry. That feature is assumed.

As believers, we don’t have to assume that God will hear us when we cry. His word declares it!

Promises: God hears the cries of the righteous. He will deliver the righteous out of their troubles. He is also near to those who have broken hearts.

PRAYER: Lord, I am so grateful that I can depend on you to hear me when I cry. Deliver me from my troubles. Save me when I’m crushed in spirit and when my heart is broken. In the name of Jesus, I thank you. Amen
