Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven

Matthew 7:21

Have you ever been in a situation when you knew someone, but it seemed like that knowledge of them was one-sided? You thought of that person as a close friend, but when you approached the individual, you were brushed aside. It became quickly apparent that the way you perceived the relationship was certainly different from what that person thought.

When it comes to our friends and family here on earth, there are small consequences if we get it all wrong. We don’t want to do this in our relationship with God. Jesus makes it clear what he expects from us. He says it is not just acknowledgement of him, but it is a life that follows Him.

As we close this year, let us assess our relationship with our Heavenly Father. He is either Lord or he is not. Entrance into his kingdom is conditional and based on a life of faith that works itself out in obedience.

PRAYER: Lord, search my heart. I want to be totally yours. I want to walk out my life of faith in obedience. Show me your ways, Lord. Lead me, Lord, and I will follow. In the name of Jesus, I pray. Amen.
