Now when Jesus had entered Capernaum, a centurion came to Him, pleading with Him, saying, “Lord, my servant is lying at home paralyzed, dreadfully tormented.” And Jesus said to him, “I will come and heal him.” When Jesus heard it, He marveled, and said to those who followed, “Assuredly, I say to you, I have not found such great faith, not even in Israel! Then Jesus said to the centurion, “Go your way; and as you have believed, so let it be done for you.” And his servant was healed that same hour. Matthew 8:5-7,10,13 (NKJV)
After Jesus had delivered the Sermon the Mount, he went into Capernaum. A Roman soldier came to him because he wanted his servant healed. The servant was in pain and unable to walk. Jesus told the pagan man of war that he would go and heal him. The soldier recognized who Jesus was. He didn’t think that he was worthy of the Christ coming to his home. He knew that Jesus only had to speak a word and healing would take place. Jesus marveled at this man’s faith. He remarked that He had not found such faith even in Israel.
Hebrews 11:1 says, “Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.” If someone was to ask you about the width and breadth of your faith, how would you respond? Is your faith the type that would cause Jesus to marvel?
PRAYER: Father, your Word says that nothing is impossible with you. I know that without faith, it is impossible to please you. I believe that you are and that you are a rewarder of those who diligently seek you. I want to please you. Please decrease my doubt and grow my faith. In the name of Jesus, I pray. Amen.
