Jesus said to them, “Fill the waterpots with water.” And they filled them up to the brim.  And He said to them, “Draw some out now, and take it to the master of the feast.” And they took it.  When the master of the feast had tasted the water that was made wine, and did not know where it came from (but the servants who had drawn the water knew), the master of the feast called the bridegroom.

John 2:7-9 (NKJV)

Last week we talked about miracles – extraordinary events that can’t be explained by natural or scientific laws, acts only attributable to a move by the hand of God. We focused on the story of the prophet Elijah and the widow of Zarephath found in 1 Kings 17. This week, we’ll examine some of the miracles in the New Testament.

The first miracle Jesus performed was at a wedding feast. His mother told him that the hosts had run out of wine. There were six empty stone waterpots, each with a 20- or 30-gallon capacity. Jesus told the servants to fill them to the brim. When the master of the feast tasted the drink, he discovered that the water was now wine and wondered about its source. The Word infers that the wine that Jesus had made was better than the first.

PRAYER: Lord, first I thank you for the miracle of salvation. I thank you for your ministry. Thank you for revealing your character through your miracles here on earth. Thank you for reminding me that some things are only attributable to your hands. In the name of the Jesus, I give you praise. Amen.
