Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, let us be thankful, and so worship God acceptably with reverence and awe. (Hebrews 12:28)

One of the things that can happen when we apply a verse of Scripture repeatedly over a period of time is that we can overcorrect. The Cambridge Dictionary defines overcorrection as the act of changing something too much when you are trying to correct it. Overcorrecting in an automobile can cause people to die, as it can cause rollover accidents when the car is turned sharply to avoid the initial threat a driver is trying to avoid.

We can do this spiritually as well. Though I may struggle with one type of fear that does not mean that I abandon some of the healthy fears. One of those healthy fears would be the fear of the Lord. We fear the Lord and approach him with reverence and awe because He is God. He has absolute sovereignty over every created thing. This fear of God hopefully feeds into everything that has the potential to cause fear. My lack of fear should not fuel any irreverence of God. I need to maintain that fear and reverence, above all else (Psalm 111:10).

Remember the power of moderation and the wise practice of allowing Scripture to interpret Scripture. We always apply the Word of God considering other verses of Scripture.

MEDITATION: Lord, give me the grace to rightly interpret Scripture. Let me be not so focused on one passage that I minimize another verse of Scripture. Give me a healthy appetite for You Word so that I fall in love with the whole of it. In the name of Jesus, Amen.
