DON’T ASSIGN FEAR TO IT

Making a Decision

For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind (1 Timothy 1:7)

I was in my bedroom preparing for work when I thought of something that was going on in my family. It was nothing that had the potential to cause harm to life, but the outcome could likely impact a loved one’s quality of life. As soon as I conceived the thought, I began the ruminating process of “what ifs.” By the time I allowed the thought to take root in my mind, the Holy Spirit spoke to me and told me not to assign fear to it.

It is natural to assign fear to a situation, especially when we have become accustomed to unfavorable results. Every good and perfect gift comes from God, and fear is not a part of the package. The scripture states that God has not given us a spirit of fear. We have to choose not to fear. We must refuse the assignment. When we surrender the situation to God, we give Him room to work without any limitations.

Prayer: Dear Lord, we realize that it is a natural instinct for us to ruminate over things that have the potential to cause harm to us and those we love. Holy Spirit, please watch over our words and thoughts so that we don’t allow fear to be rooted in the wonderful things you have planned for our lives. Lord, we don’t want to assign fear to anything in our lives. Everything in our future belongs to you. Our hope and trust lie in you and your love for us. In the Name of Jesus, Amen.
