At Joppa there was a certain disciple named Tabitha, which is translated Dorcas. This woman was full of good works and charitable deeds which she did.

Acts 9:36

Today we return to the New Testament and the book of Acts. Tabitha, also known as Dorcas, befriended and helped the poor. It is believed she was wealthy or had connections with the wealthy. She was much loved in her community of Joppa and was known for her care of the widows and the clothes she made for the needy. When she became ill, her neighbors called for Peter. He sent them out of the room, got on his knees, and prayed. Because she was raised from the dead, many believed.

If you were sick, would there be people, specifically members of the body of Christ who would rally around you? Would your death leave a huge void? Would you be missed?

PRAYER: Thank you, Lord, for reminding me through the story about Dorcas that we are supposed to be full of good works and charitable deeds. Help me to live a life that is meaningful and impactful. In the name of Jesus, I pray. Amen.
