“And she said, “The Philistines are upon you, Samson!” So he awoke from his sleep, and said, “I will go out as before, at other times, and shake myself free!” But he did not know that the Lord had departed from him.” Judges 16:20

We all know the story of Samson who went to Gaza, where he met a prostitute and went to bed with her. The people of Gaza plotted to kill him. Later in chapter 20, we learn that Samson fell in love with a woman named Deliah who was convinced to trick him so that the Philistine kings could find out why he was strong. She used trickery to lull Samson to sleep. Deliah told him if he really loved her, he would tell her the truth. Finally, he got tired to her bothering him, so he finally told her, “I have dedicated to God as a Nazirite from the time I was born. If my hair were cut, I would lose my strength and be as weak as anybody else.” Eventually, the Philistines cut off Samson’s locks, tormented him, and when he woke up, he had lost his strength. He didn’t know that the Lord had left him.

The bottom line is that Samson didn’t keep his vow. Are their things you have promised God and ended up not keeping YOUR word? Disobedience or broken promises can result in a “disconnect from God.”

PRAYER: Lord, I take my relationship with you seriously. When I make a vow to you, I want to keep it. I don’t want to be disconnected from you. Empower me through your Spirit to keep my promises. In the name of Jesus, I pray. Amen
