I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me.

Galatians 2:20

What does the process of crucifixion mean for us? Well, we must first understand that God must initiate anything that He does with man. Man cannot get to him alone. He is incapable in his horrid flesh to seek a loving God. He is the one who measures the ocean in His hands and spreads the heavens like a curtain. We cannot get over him, under him, or around Him. The word of the Lord says that the universe was created and sustained by His Word. He holds all of this together. Though God owns cattle on a thousand hills and is Sovereign in all He does and says, He is one who has a vulnerability for man. He searched for Adam and Eve after they defied the one commandment He gave them. He called for Moses from a burning bush. Jesus ultimately came to seek and save that which was lost. (Luke 19:10)

We must also remember that God is looking for a people who wants to love him back. In the book of Genesis, God does an amazing thing. He provides this beautiful place for Adam and Eve, but He gives them a choice amid His provision. Though He had provided everything they needed, He places the tree of the knowledge of good and evil in the midst of the garden so that serving and fellowshipping with Him was a choice. God wants us to choose him. He loves us, but He wants us to love him back.

This process of crucifixion involves God and mankind – God finding us and our responding to His great love and kindness toward us by giving ourselves away to Him.

PRAYER: Father, thank you for engaging in this love relationship with me. Thank you for finding me and giving me the grace to respond to your love. Help me to continue to grow in your magnificent grace. In the name of Jesus, Amen.
