The proverbs of Solomon son of David, king of Israel:   for gaining wisdom

and instruction; for understanding words of insight;   for receiving

instruction in prudent behavior, doing what is right and just and fair;   for

giving prudence to those who are simple, knowledge and discretion to the young—

Proverbs 1:1-4

There are several purposes for the proverbs listed in these verses that denote

action on our part. The writer is clear that the purpose of the proverbs is to gain

wisdom and instruction; understand words of insight; receive instruction in prudent

behavior; do what is right and just and fair; give prudence to the simple and

knowledge/discretion to the young.

If we are to gain the results listed in the verses above, there is something we need

to do. We need to allow these verses to enlighten our paths. We must be willing

participants in the process. These proverbs won’t fall from the sky. We must

engage in readings and study and even commit some to memory.

PRAYER: Lord, I realize that I must engage in the process of gaining wisdom in a

meaningful way. I cannot expect to gain, understand, receive, or do, if I do not take

the time to read and study these proverbs. Holy Spirit, I need your help. Please

take these words and pierce my heart. In the Name of Jesus. Amen
