Now it came to pass, afterward, that He went through every city and village, preaching and bringing the glad tidings of the kingdom of God. And the twelve were with Him, and certain women who had been healed of evil spirits and infirmities—Mary called Magdalene, out of whom had come seven demons, and Joanna the wife of Chuza, Herod’s steward, and Susanna, and many others who provided for Him from their substance.

Luke 8:1-3

As we look at this verse one more time, another thing to take away from it is the fact that these women were committed to Christ. The word of the Lord says that they provided for him from their substance. The key words are “for Him” and “from their.” These words are important because they could have responded to the call, gone through conversion, but remain uncommitted. I can imagine that though these women were applauded by Luke for providing for Jesus, they were probably persecuted because of their commitment. Some probably thought they were reckless with their substance, giving to Jesus the things they should provide for their own homes.

Why were they willing to give of their substance to Jesus? Once they found Jesus, they realized that he was the answer to all their problems. He was the comfort to their pain. He was the joy for their sorrow. It is the same for us today. There are no other viable options. He is the only way to eternal life.

PRAYER: I survey everything that you have given me: my car, house, job, children, other family members. Lord, I remember that you are the Source of every good thing in my life. I also know that despite the good, no one can come before you. You are #1 in my life. All the other good pales in comparison. In the name of Jesus, Amen.
