So with you: Now is your time of grief, but I will see you again and you will rejoice, and no one will take away your joy.
John 16:22
“This joy that I have: the world didn’t give it to me. This joy that I have: the world didn’t give it to me. This joy that I have: the world didn’t give it to me. The world didn’t give it; the world can’t take it away.”
This is the Christian’s joy cry. We understand that our sense of contentment and peace, many times in the time of trial, can only be explained as divine. I talk to countless people at my job. In our short encounters, I ask questions about their lives. It is during those times that I get a glimpse of who they are. Many of them share stories of loss, difficulty, and triumph. Despite the contents of the story, the tone of the conversation is always different when I converse with Christians. They have joy!
In this passage in the book of John, Jesus tells them that “Now is your time of grief, but I will see you again and you will rejoice.” He goes on to say, “No one will take away your joy.”
Today, let this verse be your song.
PRAYER: Thank you for this sweet joy I have in You in every season of my life. You are my joy!
