For he has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son he loves

Colossians 1:13

When Adam and Eve sinned, our whole world became contaminated with sin. Our sinful nature pollutes our relationship with God; makes it difficult to get along with others and puts us at odds against ourselves. Sin has many faces (Rom 1:29-31). It shows up as envy, strife, deceit, gossip, haters of God, haughty, boastful, disobedient to parents, faithless, heartless, ruthless, and many other ways. Despite how it shows up, it is always ugly and destructive.

To make matters worse, our sinful nature seeks to minimize sin’s impact on our lives (Ps 95:10-11). Satan uses us to rename it or package it in ways that make it palatable.

Who wants to really come face to face with our sinful nature and truly call it what it is? Our God does. We, like our God, must call it what it is so that it can be appropriately dealt with. Yes, he comes and rescues us from the dominion of darkness, but we must work with God, allowing the truth of His Word to be the foundation on which we stand.

PRAYER: Lord, sin is ugly. I have allowed sin to come in and wreak havoc on my life. Many times, I have participated in thoughts and activities that are not like yours. I confess those moments and ask you to come in and liberate me from the power of sin. In the Name of Jesus. Amen.
