He has saved us and called us to a holy life—not because of anything we have done but because of his purpose and grace. This grace was given to us in Christ Jesus before the beginning of time, 10 but it has now been revealed through the appearance of our Savior, Christ Jesus, who has destroyed death and has brought life and immortality to light through the gospel.

2 Timothy 9-10 (NIV)

Not only has God saved us, but he has called us to a holy life. What is holy? It is having awe or reverence. Being holy is distinctively different from the ordinary and common. Holy is not just for heaven, but it is for earth. We are called to holiness not because of what we have done, but because of what God has purposed and empowered us to be. Our entire journey with God is by grace—not of our works. One commentator says, “We stand wholly on the grace of God. Everything we need for life and godliness, including salvation, acceptance, and sanctification, comes freely to us through our knowledge of Christ Jesus.”

PRAYER: Lord, I come to you, today, with a heart of gratitude. I am grateful because everything that I am, including my knowledge of you, is because of you and your grace. Thank you for saving me.
