This Is what the Lord, the God of Isarel says: ‘I anointed you king over Israel, and I delivered you form the hand of Saul. I gave your master’s house to you and you master’s wives into your arms. I gave you all Israel and Judah. And if all this had been too little, I would have given you even more. Why did you despise the word of the Lord by doing what is evil in his eyes?’
2 Samuel 12:7b-9a
What is the heart of the matter? God anointed. God delivered. God gave. God provided for David’s needs and most of his wants. Despite what God did, it was not enough. David coveted. David took. David sinned.
What has God given you? We sit back and count all the things that we don’t have, but we should quantify what we do have. When we step out of the will of God to take something that does not belong to us, we are out of the will of the Lord and begin to despise God’s will and his way. Lord, let me never despise your will and way. Let me do what is right in your eyes, valuing the things you have given me.
PRAYER: Lord, let me stay the course in your will. Even when I think things could be better doing it my way, remind me that your way is the best way. In Your Name, Amen.
