Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith.
Hebrews 12:1-2
Another huge issue that can hinder us is the pride of life. This one can hit all of this. We live in this materialistic society, where we are judged more on how much money we make than where we will spend eternity. Social media magnifies this mentality as we consciously and subconsciously boast about our accomplishments. There is nothing wrong with success or doing well. The hindrances of pride come in when we allow those things to determine our worth.
We must remember that the kingdom of God and the kingdom of man are opposites. Jesus makes a point of coming to earth through a lowly, poor virgin. He makes it a point to be placed in a feeding trough after his birth. He makes it a point to choose ordinary men to follow him.
PRAYER: Lord, let me never allow the “hype” of these worldly things to keep my eyes off of you. What you do in me is the other thing that will matter throughout eternity. Let me put all of the other stuff in perspective—where it belongs. In the Name of Jesus, Amen.
