“Great peace have those who love Your law, And nothing causes them to stumble.”
Psalm 119:165
During the Vessels of Comfort Ministries 1st Tuesday session recently, several prayer requests were placed on the altar. Among other petitions, callers prayed for the family of a young lady who was gunned down in a major U.S. city and for the families of two persons killed during a kidnapping in Mexico. While we wish those incidents were anomalies – few and far between – they are not. Later that week, we heard about a man who killed seven people in a Jehovah’s Witness hall in Germany. Across our nation and around the world, violence has become the norm in small towns, in the suburbs, and in metropolitan locations. Because no one or community is exempt, sometimes it’s hard to be at peace even in the comfort of our homes.
Two scriptural passages come to mind. John 16:33 says that He came so that in Him, we may have peace. The surrounding verses remind us that in this world we will tribulation but that we should be of good cheer. Romans 12:18 admonishes: “If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone.”
Promise: He promises peace for those who love his law.
PRAYER: Dear Lord, so many things in our world try to rob us of peace. From relationship issues within our families, to rifts among friends and coworkers, to church conflicts, there is so much disharmony, discord, and disagreement. It’s such a blessing to know that we can find peace in you. In the name of Jesus, we pray. Amen
