Act on your beliefs…
For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also.
James 2:26
Faith without works is dead. I learned in seminary that James wrote this book because there were a number of believers in the early church who were taking Paul’s message of grace as a license to sin. Despite Paul’s urging in Romans 6:1 that we shall not continue in sin that grace abound, there were a number of saints who wanted to take advantage of the grace of God.
James reminds the Christian that faith and works walk hand in hand. You must believe, but that belief must be followed with action. If the action does not follow, you then must question the faith.
Jesus also taught that we must obey his teachings, if we are to stand.
CHALLENGE: Take a moment to think about what you believe. How have you come to terms with scriptures about obedience. How are you measuring up?
