Honor the Lord with your wealth, with the firstfruits of all your crops; then your barns will be filled to overflowing, and your vats will brim over with new wine.
Proverbs 3:9,10
If you attend church, you have probably heard many different offertory appeals. We know how to quote scriptures from Malachi about how God opens the windows of heaven and pours out blessings so there is no room to receive more. We learn scriptures about how God loves a cheerful giver. Maybe you have heard scriptures that give insight on the power of partnering with others in ministry or missions.
Here, God says it again. He says that we are to honor the Lord with our wealth—the firstfruits of all our crops. He wants the very best. Does God need it? Absolutely not, but he understands and knows the power of giving Him our very best. Giving does open windows that cannot be opened any other way. The word of the Lord says that the barns will be filled to overflowing and vats will brim over with new wine.
If we put God first in our lives with our wealth, it gives him the opportunity to bless us back. Seek him first, and the rest will always follow.
PRAYER: There are times when I struggle with my willingness to give you the first of my wealth. Give me the grace to entrust you with those things you have loaned to me. In the Name of Jesus, Amen.
