My son, if you accept my words and store up my commands within you,
turning your ear to wisdom and applying your heart to understanding—
indeed, if you call out for insight and cry aloud for understanding, and if you
look for it as for silver and search for it as for hidden treasure,
then you will understand the fear of the Lord and find the knowledge of God.
Proverbs 2:1-5
Have you ever been in a situation when you asked for an opinion amidst a group?
There is usually the person who opts for the high road and another who opts for
the low road. Despite how inexperienced or naive we are, the value of the advice
received is usually obvious. There are times, however, when it is difficult to
determine the advice that is right and the advice that is wrong. This is why we are
to cry aloud and search for wisdom. If we store it, it is easier to discern what
direction to take because it is already ingrained in our hearts.
The writer says that by storing, turning, applying, calling and searching, we will
then learn the fear of the Lord and find the knowledge of God.
Next time you have a decision to make, ask the Holy Spirit to point you to
scriptures for the answer. Don’t rely on your human intellect or your flighty
feelings. When we look to God for understanding and wisdom, we get to
understand and know Him more.
PRAYER: Lord, I desire to understand and know you. I also know that walking
with you demands decisions on my part. I must learn to walk in sync with your will
and way. Teach me to do just that. In the Name of Jesus. Amen
