There are six things the Lord hates, seven that are detestable to him: haughty eyes, a lying tongue, hands that shed innocent blood, a heart that devises wicked schemes, feet that are quick to rush into evil, a false witness who pours out lies and a person who stirs up conflict in the community.
Proverbs 6:16-19
This passage of scripture has always intrigued me. Most of the time, Christians place a high priority on sexual sins (i.e., sexual acts outside of the ark of biblical marriage). Though those sins can have harsh consequences, the writer of this proverb has made it clear that there are some other things God hates.
Pride
Lies
Shedding of innocent blood
Devising wicked plans
Rushing to evil
False witnesses
Stirring strife
If we are honest with each another, we have all committed most – if not all – of the sins on this list. I am sure if you are reading this devotional, your desire is to please God. Let us put away those things that God hates. Let us not grieve the Holy Spirit. Let’s walk in the way he has prescribed for us.
PRAYER: Lord, I do not ever want to break your heart. Let me always consider the way my action might impact myself, others, and you. In the Name of Jesus. Amen
