For this is how God loved the world: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life.John 3:16

It is believed that Fannie Crosby, the co-author of the popular “Jesus, Keep Me Near the Cross” wrote between 5,500 and 9,000 hymns. Crosby had approximately 100 pseudonyms or fake names during her writing career. She was blinded at six months after receiving incorrect treatment for an eye infection but went on to play two musical instruments. The words of this hymn demonstrated the familiarity she felt with the Lord: from “His beams” around her to the “cross shadows” over her. These words reflected senses that were sharpened as she pondered the sight she lacked here on earth but would inherit in eternity. She was quoted as saying, “When I get to heaven, the first face that shall ever gladden my sight will be that of the Savior.”

MEDITATION:

Jesus, keep me near the cross,There a precious fountain;Free to all, a healing stream,Flows from Calv'ry's mountainIn the cross, in the crossBe my glory ever,Till my ransomed soul shall findRest beyond the river.Near the cross, a trembling soul,Love and mercy found me;There the Bright and Morning StarShed His beams around me. Near the cross! O lamb of God,Bring its scenes before me;Help me walk from day to dayWith its shadow o'er me. Near the cross! I'll watch and wait,Hoping, trusting ever;Till I reach the golden strand,Just beyond the river.

In the name of Jesus, I praise you. AMEN
