We love Him because He first loved us.

1 John 4:19

This hymn by Frederick Whitfield has been sung by believers for more than 150 years. Stanza 1 says that we have the sweet name of Jesus to sing. Stanza 2 says that we have the blood of Christ shed for our sins. Stanza 3 says that we have the guidance of a loving Father. Stanza 4 says that we have the concern of God in our sorrows. Stanza 5 says that we have meaning in life because of Christ’s worth. Stanza 6 says that we have the hope of heaven. Finally, the chorus expresses how we should respond when we think about how blessed we are: “Oh How I Love Jesus!”

MEDITATION: I love you, Jesus. I worship and adore you.

There is a Name I love to hear,I love to sing its worth; It sounds like music in my ear,The sweetest Name on earth.Oh, how I love Jesus,Oh, how I love Jesus,Oh, how I love Jesus,Because He first loved me!It tells me of a Savior’s love,Who died to set me free;It tells me of His precious blood,The sinner’s perfect plea.It tells me of a Father’s smileBeaming upon His child; It cheers me through this little while,Through desert, waste, and wild.It tells me what my Father hathIn store for every day,And though I tread a darksome path,Yields sunshine all the way.It tells of One whose loving heartCan feel my deepest woe;Who in each sorrow bears a partThat none can bear below. It bids my trembling heart rejoice; It dries each rising tear;It tells me, in a “still small voice,”To trust and never fear.

In the name of Jesus, I praise You. AMEN.
