You will fill me with joy I your presence, with eternal pleasures at your right hand

Psalm 16:11

In “A Charlie Brown Christmas,” Charlie Brown had trouble getting into the Christmas spirit. Linus said, “Charlie Brown, you’re the only person I know who can take a wonderful season like Christmas and turn it into a problem.” Have you met someone like this? There is always something to complain about. It’s like looking at the rose and choosing not to enjoy it because of the thorns. In this world, there will always be thorns. There will always be burdens with the blessings, so why not just try to enjoy the good. For there is medicinal power in joy. Spurgeon says that joy is contagious and oils the wheels of our life’s machinery. He goes on to say that holy joy strengthens us for our daily labor.

Today, choose joy! Ask the Lord to share his joy with you. After all, joy is a fruit of the Spirit—a byproduct of walking in sync with our God.

PRAYER: Lord, I admit that I can be negative. I tend to see the burdens before the blessings. Show me how to be joyous in all seasons. In the Name of Jesus, Amen.
