At this they wept aloud again. Then Orpah kissed her mother-in-law goodbye, but Ruth clung to her. “Look,” said Naomi,” your sister-in-law is going back to her people and her gods. Go back with her.” But Ruth replied, “Don’t urge me to leave you or to turn back from you. Where you go, I will go, and where you stay, I will stay. Your people will be my people and your God my God.
Ruth 1:14-16
We all know the story of Ruth and Naomi. We know how Naomi lost her husband and two sons. Ruth was married to one and Orpah was married to the other. You see, trouble hit Naomi’s, Ruth’s, and Orpah’s house. When trouble hits, you have a choice. One choice is to go the way of Orpah. Orpah chose to go back to what was familiar and reachable: former ways, former life, and former gods. The other choice is to follow Ruth’s example. Ruth decided to follow this God of Naomi’s. It meant that she would have to wait and trust this invisible God, taking a chance on how her life would be.
Have you taken a chance on this invisible God. Even though we might not understand the road. Even though we might be down and in despair. Even though we have to cry sometime. Even though we might have to wait until changes come. We wait because we know our faithful God will not leave us, neither will he forsake us.
PRAYER: Lord, let me always choose the way of Ruth, choosing your way above all else. In the name of Jesus, I pray. Amen.
