And while staying with them he ordered them not to depart from Jerusalem, but to wait for the promise of the Father, which, he said, “you heard from me; for John baptized with water, but you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now.”
Acts 1:4-5
The church is sanctified. We have been set apart for a specific, ordained purpose.
In this passage of scripture, Jesus urges the disciples to stay in Jerusalem and wait for the Holy Spirit at Pentecost. In the days to come, these disciples would be baptized with the Holy Spirit. This would be where the church began. The word of the Lord says that they were all gathered in one place and on one accord, waiting for the promise. They were set apart.
The same is true today. God expects his church to be set apart. We should not look like the world. We don’t talk like the world; act like the word; or think like the world. Christ is in us, and that governs how we engage in the world. We must not be afraid to be who we are in Christ. We should walk boldly, daring to show that we are distinctly different from everything and everyone around us. We are sanctified.
PRAYER: Thank you, Lord, for setting me apart. Let me learn to be content in who you called me to be. Let me learn to accept the members of your body whom you have called by your name. In the name of Jesus, I pray and give thanks. Amen
