The husband should fulfill his marital duty to his wife, and likewise the wife to her husband. The wife does not have authority over her own body but yields it to her husband. In the same way, the husband does not have authority over his own body but yields it to his wife.
1 Corinthians 7:3-4
The sexualization of modern Western culture is palpable. Our views about sex have become more liberal, and the church has gradually assented to this new cultural sexual norm. When we look to the church, most see our traditional Christian views on marriage and sex based on either ignorance or being overly legalistic. We embrace the grace but dismiss the power of the Holy Spirit who helps us to walk in holiness. We believe that “nothing is wrong with sex as long as it is with two loving adults.”
Our Lord is clear about how a sexual need is fulfilled. The husband is responsible for fulfilling his marital duty to his wife, and the wife is responsible for fulfilling her marital duty to her husband. Each person yields to the other.
PRAYER: Lord, help me to think about and practice sex your way. It is not for me to enjoy outside the circle of marriage. If I am praying for a partner, give me patience to wait on what you have for me. In the name of Jesus, I pray. Amen.
