As each one has received a gift, minister it to one another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God.
1 Peter 4:10
It’s November, and many of our thoughts turn toward Thanksgiving—our blessings and the people and things for which we are grateful. This month, some members of the faith community will focus on stewardship, going beyond our normal level of giving to impact people and causes in need of assistance. The Holman Bible Dictionary defines stewardship as “utilizing and managing all resources God provides for the glory of God and betterment of His creation.” That means, as believers, we wisely manage and use the financial and spiritual gifts God has given us.
An article I read recently stated that acting compassionately involves tangibly expressing love for those who are hurting. It said that compassion is not just knowing that another person is suffering. It’s putting that knowledge into action.
God’s Word is full of examples of people who used their resources for the good of others. Over the next two weeks, we will examine some of their deeds and share some of the lessons we can learn from them.
PRAYER: Father, I want to be a believer who wisely uses all of the gifts you have given me. Help me recognize when others are hurting. Guide me in putting that knowledge into action. In the name of Jesus, I pray. Amen.
