Therefore, be imitators of God, as beloved children. And walk in love, as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us, a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.

Ephesians 5:1-2

The fact of the matter is that most of us have a propensity to live very superficial Christian lives. We live life without any spiritual density. Everything Christian is on the outside, but it cloaks a heart that can be far from God. Even if you are thriving right now, I do not know of any Christian who has not struggled in this way.

Many times, when we read this scripture, we immediately make our behavior the barometer for our Christian growth. Actually, our Christian growth starts in the heart. In this passage of scripture, Paul reminds us to imitate God. We are to look like him, not just in our behavior, but also in our thoughts and in our hearts. Our Christianity should be evident in every part of our being.

PRAYER: Lord, I admit that I struggle with not looking like you in every part of my being. If my thoughts are dissimilar to yours, give me your thoughts. If my heart is far away from you, bring my heart back to you. If my behavior is not evident of your life in me, make me over. In the Name of Jesus, I pray. Amen
