“God is not a man, that He should lie, Nor a son of man, that He should repent. Has He said, and will He not do? Or has He spoken, and will He not make it good?”
Numbers 23:19
As I drove past a church near my house the other day, a sign out front caught my eye. It read, “God is Faithful. He Keeps His Promises.”
Britannica Dictionary defines “promise” as telling someone that you will definitely do something or that something will definitely happen in the future. The Cambridge Dictionary says a “promise” is a reason to expect that something will happen in the future. It goes on to say that to “promise” is to guarantee, give someone your word, assure, swear, or pledge.
During the course of our lives, every day, we pledge to others that we will or will not do certain things. Probably in the majority of cases, our intentions are good, but too often we can’t or just don’t fulfill our pledge. On the other hand, when God makes a promise, we can depend on it. We can stand on his word because our Lord is faithful. His promises are revealed from Genesis to Revelation. Over the next two weeks, we are going to examine some of the promises of the Psalms – the book of hymns and prayers that were used in Israel’s worship.
PRAYER: Lord, I am so glad that you are not like man. You don’t lie. You cannot lie. Thank you for promises upon which I can stand. I can rest assured that what you have pledged will be realized. In the name of Jesus, I praise you. AMEN
