“Your word I have hidden in my heart, That I might not sin against You.”

Psalm 119:11

Psalm 119 says that we are blessed when we stay on course, walking steadily on the road God reveals. The word declares that we are blessed when we follow his directions, when we keep his testimonies, and when we seek him with our whole hearts.

The beginning of verse 9 asks, “can a young man cleanse his way? Immediately, we get an answer: Yes, by taking heed according to God’s word. The psalmist seeks God with his whole heart so that he doesn’t wander from His commandments. But following his commandments goes beyond seeking him; it includes asking God to teach us.

Promise: Hiding the word in our hearts will help us to live holy.

PRAYER: Lord, I want to be single-minded in pursuit of you. I don’t want to miss the road signs you have posted. Help me to bank your promises in the fault of my heart so I won’t sin myself bankrupt. Please train me in your ways of wise living. I want to transfer to my lips all the counsel that comes from your mouth. I delight in what you tell me about living, rather than in gathering a pile of riches. I want to eat of your wisdom and then savor everything you’ve told me. Keep me alert. By your Spirit, help me to remember your commands. In the name of Jesus, I pray and give you thanks. Amen
