“Therefore whoever hears these sayings of Mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock: 25 and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it did not fall, for it was founded on the rock.

26 “But everyone who hears these sayings of Mine, and does not do them, will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand: 27 and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it fell. And great was its fall.”

Matthew 7: 24-27

This is the last week for us to use Black’s book, “The Blessing of Adversity.” Black, using Matthew 7:24-27 as his text in the book’s last chapter, addresses principles we can use to storm proof our lives.

Jesus shares that those who hear his teachings and do them are like a wise man who builds his house on the rock. Despite rain, floods and winds, the house did not fall because it was resting on a solid foundation. On the contrary, those who hear and do not obey are like the foolish man who builds his house on the sand. When the storms come, the house falls.

Over the next several days, we will focus on the following:

You are not alone

Learn to listen to God

Act on your beliefs

Brace for life’s storms

PRAYER: Lord, I realize that storms of life are inevitable. This week, let me take your teachings and apply them to my life so that I learn to weather my storms in the way you intended. In the Name of Jesus, I pray. Amen.
