The proverbs of Solomon son of David, king of Israel: for gaining wisdom
and instruction; for understanding words of insight; for receiving
instruction in prudent behavior, doing what is right and just and fair; for
giving prudence to those who are simple, knowledge and discretion to the young—
Proverbs 1:1-4
We live in a world of information overload. We can turn on a computer and do a
search on just about anything imaginable. We can find a video on almost any
subject. We can look up an activity as simple as how to tie a shoelace or watch a
surgeon perform triple bypass surgery. We are inundated by knowledge.
While knowledge is being acquainted with information, it is another issue with
wisdom. One can obtain knowledge by reading, studying, or researching the facts,
truths or principles. Wisdom, on the other hand, means that you can discern or
make judgements about a thing or situation. Wisdom is applied knowledge.
Over the past month, God has led me to the book of Proverbs. This book, with
multiple authors, is a part of Wisdom literature found in the Holy Bible. Though
proverbs were common in the ancient Near East, there is a distinct difference
between the proverbs found in the Bible versus those teachings written, read, and
studied during ancient times.
During the next month, we will delve into God’s proverbs to release the power and
truths found in them, recognizing that in this age of information, there are wisdom
deficits.
PRAYER: Lord, I need your wisdom like never before. I cannot think of a period so
fraught with various opinions on how to manage this situation or that one. I also
know that your Word says that there is a way that seems right to a man but at the
end of it is destruction. I need your wisdom to survive and experience all that you
have for me. I need to know what you are saying. In the Name of Jesus. Amen
