Now it came to pass, afterward, that He went through every city and village, preaching and bringing the glad tidings of the kingdom of God. And the twelve were with Him, and certain women who had been healed of evil spirits and infirmities—Mary called Magdalene, out of whom had come seven demons, and Joanna the wife of Chuza, Herod’s steward, and Susanna, and many others who provided for Him from their substance.
Luke 8:1-3
Can you imagine the lives of these women before Jesus healed them. The Word of the Lord says that they had been healed of evil spirits and infirmities. We rarely talk about evil spirits and demon possession. You see, there is both the natural and the supernatural realm. To be possessed by an evil spirit means that some alien force has supernaturally taken control over certain parts of a person’s0 functioning and identity. In the bible, demons caused muteness, fever, aggression, self-mutilation, and many of difficulties. When one is demon possessed, the person cannot change their situation themselves. They require outside help. They are utterly helpless in their situation.
Infirmities are quite different. They are more of an inside problem. An infirmity is the weakness or condition that results from being stricken with a disease or illness.
Jesus delivered these women, and they, in turn, followed him. Jesus had full authority over every situation despite the cause. Jesus is the same yesterday, today, and forever. Nothing has changed. He can still deliver us out of our dire situations.
PRAYER: Today, I pray for those who are struggling with demon possession or oppression. I know that if a demon has taken over a part of someone, that person must be in a dark place. In the name of Jesus, please touch those I know who may be struggling with this issue. Also, there are many who are struggling with an infirmity. Some disease has left them weak and infirmed. Lord, help those I know who may have an infirmity. We know that you can do all things. In the name of Jesus, Amen.
