“My soul, wait silently for God alone, For my expectation is from Him.”

Psalm 62:5

We tend to put expectations on others and attach it to our happiness. We expect that our spouses will meet certain needs, eventually bringing us marital bliss. We also engage in relationships with family and friends, assigning expectations for those connections as well. Unfortunately, we will be disappointed when a spouse fails to understand us, or a friend is not there when we call.

Psalm 62:5 reminds us that our ultimate expectation is from God, alone. He is the only Person who remains faithful in all situations, keeping us the object of His affection. We cannot expect our spouses, friends, family, friends, job, or other things to do this. It is impossible. So, today, surrender all of your expectations to Christ. Wait for Him! The wait will be worth it.

THOUGHT TO PONDER: How has your expectation of others taint your relationship with them? What happens when you are disappointed with someone? Is it difficult to overcome? What would happen if you surrendered all of your expectations to God and Him, alone?
