“Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.”

Matthew 6:34

The scripture above resonates with many people. If you are like me, this New Testament passage is one that you hold dear to your heart. Every day most of us go to jobs or attend schools where we hear a lot about short- and long-term plans. As a society, we are consumed with forward thinking. This focus on the future or forward thinking can generate anxiety and unease.

As hard as it may seem, we must learn to be content with where we are today. Jesus tells us that this is the best state of mind. We need to foster a mindset that creates gratitude and a sense of peace and calm. How is this possible? Can we cultivate that state on our own? Absolutely not! We need the Holy Spirit’s help.

PRAYER: Dear Lord, I thank you for reminding me I don’t have to worry about what will happen tomorrow. Because of you, I don’t have to be concerned about what to eat, drink, or wear. Thank you for knowing what I need. Help me to seek your kingdom and your righteousness first. I want to bathe in your word so that when worry raises its ugly head, I know without a doubt that my life is in your hands. Thank you for reminding me that I can trust you. In the name of Jesus, I pray. Amen
