But concerning that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, nor the Son, but the Father only.

Matthew 24:36

Merry Christmas. Today is the day we commemorate the birth of Christ. We pay special attention to babies in stables, angels, and shepherds, and we think about how each entity welcomed the birth of the Christ child. Luke 2:52 states, “And Jesus grew in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and men. This God-child would grow and walk out a life totally committed to the will of His Father.

He would die on a wooden cross, rise from a dark, cold grave, and ascend to heaven to be with his Father. While here on earth, he declared that no one knows the day and hour that He will come back. The word of the Lord proclaims that not even the angels of heaven, nor the Son knows. Only the Father knows.

This week, we celebrate his birth, while looking forward to a time when he comes back to get us, consummating the Kingdom of God, bringing all things to completion. Revelation 11:15 looks toward the time when the kingdom of the world will become the kingdom of our Lord and of his Christ, and he will reign forever and ever.

PRAYER: Dear God, thank you for this Christmas. I appreciate your arrival in human flesh and look forward to the time when you come back for a church without a spot or wrinkle. In the name of Jesus, I pray. Amen.
