Over the course of the next two weeks, we will focus on the young people in our lives who have not fully submitted to Christ. Why is this a major concern to us? Well, we know that the wages of sin is death, not life. When bad seeds are sown, it produces pain and sorrow in the lives of our unrepentant loved ones. It is my prayer that the Holy Spirit will place a daughter, a son, a niece, or nephew, a friend, a cousin, a neighbor on your mind for whom to pray. May your prayers be heard on high! May each person prayed for commit to the Lord, Jesus Christ, FULLY. In the Name of Jesus.
Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working.
James 5:16
One of the enemy’s biggest tactics, as it relates to our children, is to make you think there is an expectation that all young people go through a period of rebellion; and in due season, they return to God. When we decide to believe this lie, it gives the devil even more ground in the young person’s life. We think to ourselves that all children rebel, and eventually they will return home.
To make matters worse, we go to the scriptures to reinforce those thoughts. We say to ourselves, “train up a child in the way he should go and when he is old he will not depart from it” (Proverbs 22:6). We hang our hat on this proverb, truly thinking that a young person’s salvation is somewhat guaranteed, if we trained them to do right.
This proverb is a wise saying and not a promise. I would venture to say that there are many young folks who went to meet their Maker, without departing from their evil ways. Though I believe that the principle is usually realized, there are times when it is not.
James 5:16 reminds us that prayer is key to turning any situation around. The prayer of a righteous person has great power. We must not assume that there is going to be a happy ending. We must pray for it.
PRAYER: Today, I commit to praying for _________, ____________ and _______________. Lord, you know their situations and where they stand with you. I turn my face to you and bring their names before you. We need them to give their whole hearts to you. In the name of Jesus, I pray. Amen
