And lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Amen (Matthew 28:20)
I’ve had the privilege of walking with a number of people during their valley experiences. Thinking back to some of those journeys, I can still see the looks of desperation on the faces of those dealing with grim health issues as they searched for a glimmer of hope – any assurance that they might beat a potentially fatal condition. They wanted to survive. And they were willing to give almost anything in exchange for their own lives. I know that “look” because I have been in the same place. Oftentimes, folks going through a health crisis hang on to every word prayed and every scripture quoted, hoping that God will be gracious and restore their health.
During low points in my own life, I have made my share of mistakes. I’ve declared scriptures of healing and health, while fully disregarding God’s will in the situation, as if the surety of God’s presence was only a consolation prize. Many would rather hear that their prayers would be answered, as opposed to knowing that God is with them.
Prayer: Lord, I confess that there have been times that the promise of your presence seemed inadequate because I failed to understand what it meant. I have misunderstood and underestimated your presence’s power. This week, give me revelation of what it means that you are always with me. In Jesus’ Name, AMEN.
