I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know him better. I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in his holy people, and his incomparably great power for us who believe.

Ephesians 1:17-19a

As we end this week, let us remember that many times we exhaust ourselves with temporal prayers—things that we determine are the will of God that seek only to satisfy what is in front of us. There is nothing wrong with these prayers, as God wants us to come to him with our deepest longing.

I believe that God wants us to go deeper than our prayer for conveniences. He wants us to dig into the heart of God and pray for those things that make us spiritually rich. Take for instance this prayer. I am sure Paul could have prayed for any number of things. After all, Paul said that he had learned the secret of being content in much and little. Considering this prayer was written during one of his imprisonments, I can only imagine that Paul could have filled all his blank pages with things that would make his life convenient.

Yet, Paul takes the time to pray for those at Ephesus. He is a bondman, and they are free, but he prayed that they have wisdom and revelation to know Christ better. He prays that the eyes of their hearts are enlightened so that they would know more about whom they were called to. He wanted them to learn the riches of our great inheritance and the greatness of the power to us who believe. Wow! What a prayer.

PRAYER: Lord, I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ give me the Spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him. I also pray that the eyes of my understanding may be enlightened so that I may know and understand the hope to which I have been called. Lord, give me a revelation of the riches you have in your holy people and the great power for us who believe.
