Yet I wish that all men were even as I myself am. However, each man has his own gift from God, one in this manner, and another in that.

1 Corinthians 7:7

We will end this week’s devotionals with a word of encouragement for those who are unmarried. We live in a country filled with singles. More people are waiting to be married later in life, and there are others who find themselves single again. Despite the reason for the single status, this is a place that we have all been.

You can go back and forth about singleness. Is it a curse or a blessing? I guess it’s about perspective. In this passage of scripture, Paul says that he sees the benefits of being single. Yet, if one has difficulty staying pure sexually, it is better that they marry. Then you have in Genesis 2:18 that is is not good for man to be alone. God, Himself, makes a companion for him. What is the better option? It depends on God’s purpose for your life. One thing to remember is that during your period of singleness, you have more time to build a close relationship with God. This is truly the reason why Paul prefers it. He doesn’t have to worry about pleasing a wife or husband, because God becomes the ONLY companion.

PRAYER: Lord, I want to influence my brother and sister to live holy. Let my words and actions be a motivation for them to do right, not wrong. In the name of Jesus, I pray. Amen.
